Beyond the Page: 30 Prompts to Ignite Your Storytelling

I saw something similar to this made on a Tumblr Blog I’ve subscribed to and liked it so much I thought I’d have a go at it myself – some creative writing prompts. What do you think of them readers?

  1. A world where the sky is a canvas of ever-changing colors, and the clouds are the masterpieces of an invisible artist.
  2. A story about a librarian who discovers a book that writes itself, revealing secrets of the universe.
  3. A romance between a ghost and a medium, where love transcends the boundaries of life and death.
  4. A detective who solves crimes by interpreting the dreams of suspects.
  5. A fantasy where the trees can walk and talk, and they’re planning to reclaim the earth.
  6. A dystopian society where people’s memories are stored in a central database, and forgetting is a crime.
  7. A comedy about a family of werewolves who are trying to keep their secret while attending high school.
  8. A tragedy where the protagonist is cursed to live forever, watching everyone they love age and die.
  9. An adventure where the treasure is a portal to another dimension, guarded by mythical creatures.
  10. A horror story set in a haunted house where the ghosts are trying to solve their own murder mysteries.
  11. A science fiction tale about a planet where time flows backward, and people age in reverse.
  12. A historical fiction set in an alternate reality where magic is real and used in everyday life.
  13. A mystery where the detective is also the villain’s accomplice, but they don’t know it yet.
  14. A romance that unfolds through messages left in bottles that wash up on different shores.
  15. A fantasy where magic is forbidden and practiced in secret societies, but one society wants to bring it back into the light.
  16. An action movie with a plot that’s actually a play within a play within a play.
  17. A western where the outlaws are actually heroes in disguise, fighting against an oppressive regime.
  18. A musical about a group of friends who can’t sing or dance but have other talents, like inventing gadgets or solving puzzles.
  19. An epic poem about a hero’s journey through an electric world where everything is powered by lightning.
  20. A detective story set in a city where everyone has amnesia every night, but one person remembers everything.
  21. A romance that’s actually a battle between rival kingdoms, with love as the only hope for peace.
  22. A fantasy where dragons are the guardians of knowledge, not destruction, and they’re trying to teach humans how to use magic responsibly.
  23. An adventure with no destination, only the thrill of the journey itself, through landscapes that defy imagination.
  24. A science fiction story about a society that communicates through colors instead of words, with each color representing a different emotion or idea.
  25. A historical fiction set in a world where history repeats itself every decade, but this time someone wants to change it for good.
  26. A mystery that’s actually a treasure hunt for an ancient artifact with mysterious powers that can alter reality.
  27. A comedy that’s actually a philosophical debate disguised as humor, with characters representing different schools of thought.
  28. An epic tale about an ordinary person who becomes an accidental hero during an alien invasion, leading humanity to victory with wit and courage.
  29. A spy thriller with no spies, but rather, spies who are all undercover as animals in an international zoo espionage ring.
  30. An action movie about someone who can only move when they’re asleep, leading to thrilling chases and escapes during their dreams.

I’ve already got the writing prompts (mostly) for my sequel to Rabbit Fever, but i think the above has made me think a bit about how I can develop some of my prompts and plot lines to make them more engaging, enticing and mysterious. What would you add to the above?
